Engineering note
Before the team arrives on site, the drawings, charger data, civil details, cable schedule and who-does-what should all tell the same story. Most site delays come from small mismatches, like a foundation that doesn’t suit the charger base or a cable size that changed after the drawing was issued.
Sites never match drawings perfectly. When something has to change (a cable route blocked by a drain, a charger moved for access), the change should be reviewed by the engineer and recorded, so safety, protection settings and future maintenance are not affected.
Inspect at each stage instead of only at the end: foundations before concreting, earthing before backfilling, cable terminations before energising. Problems found early take minutes to fix; problems found during commissioning can mean breaking finished work.
Testing is most useful when every result can be traced back to the approved design: insulation and earth resistance, protection settings, and a live charging test on each charger with a real vehicle. Results should be recorded, not just ticked off.
The handover pack should include as-built drawings, test records, charger details and serial numbers, warranty documents and simple operating guidance. Whoever runs the site next year should be able to understand exactly what was installed and whom to call.
