Start with the facts: your sanctioned load, the actual peak demand from recent electricity bills, transformer rating, spare ways in the panels, cable routes and the condition of existing equipment. Many projects assume capacity that is already being used.
A useful load study does not stop at one figure. It compares today’s requirement, the next phase of expansion and the worst-case peak when many vehicles charge together. Each scenario shows whether you can use the existing supply, need a load enhancement, or need an HT connection.
If the study shows you need more power, the DISCOM application usually becomes the longest step in the project. Knowing this before ordering chargers lets you file early and plan civil and electrical work around the approval, instead of waiting with equipment lying on site.
Buying chargers first and checking power later is how projects end up with chargers running at reduced power, a surprise transformer bill or a redesign halfway through. A few days spent on a load study costs far less than changing panels and cables after installation.
The output should feed directly into charger selection, the phasing plan, the SLD and BOQ, the approval applications and the project timeline. That way everyone, from your management to the contractor, works from the same numbers.
