DISCOM approval for EV charging in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
A practical field perspective.

06 / 07

Approvals are the slowest part of most EV charging projects. Here is how the process usually runs and how to avoid delays.

Engineering note

Decisions that improve delivery.

01

Why approval sets the timeline

Most of our projects take around 100 days from site survey to switch-on, and the biggest variable is the power connection. Installing chargers takes days; a new connection or load enhancement from the DISCOM can take weeks or months. Planning the approval first is the single best way to finish on time.

02

Know which case your site is

There are broadly three cases. The site has enough spare sanctioned load and only needs internal works. The site needs a load enhancement on its existing connection. Or the site needs a separate connection for EV charging, often with its own meter and EV tariff. Each has different paperwork and lead time, so confirm it at the survey stage.

03

Documents to keep ready

Usually you will need ownership or lease proof, the existing electricity bill and connection details, a site layout, a single-line diagram and load details of the proposed chargers. For apartments, an RWA resolution or no-objection is commonly needed. Requirements change between DISCOMs and over time, so check the current list with your DISCOM or your contractor.

04

Safety inspection before switch-on

Higher-capacity installations also need inspection and approval from the Electrical Inspectorate before energisation. Good test records for insulation, earthing and protection make this step quicker. Keep the as-built drawings and test reports; you will need them again for any future expansion.

05

How we keep it moving

We file early, follow up regularly, and plan civil and electrical work in parallel so the site is ready the day power is sanctioned. In Hyderabad and Telangana that means working with TGSPDCL or TGNPDCL, in Andhra Pradesh with the local APDISCOM, and in Karnataka with BESCOM and the other ESCOMs.
